Anyone ever install a 1 DIN HU & .5 DIN EQ in dash?

Just curious, I hate the way that the 1 DIN recievers look in our dashes, even with a decent install kit. Has anyone ever installed a 1 DIN head unit and a .5 DIN equalizer in dash? I'd do it just so I wouldn't have any empty space above or below my head unit.

I did once in my '85 Firebird SE. It looked worse than a single DIN HU alone. Both pieces stuck out about an inch from the dash. I like the way a single DIN HU looks in a flush mount Metra 99-3009 kit better.

I've got the Metra 99-3009 kit...that's what I'm complaining about. I used to have a friend with a Tahoe who put a 1 din with a .5 din equalizer, and I thought it looked pretty good.
