LS1 Exhausts fit on 98-02 V6s???

My g/f bought a 2001 Firebird. It to quiet, she wants it louder and im looking for an exhaust for her. Prefer the full catback Anything but flowmaster or flowtech though. Are the firebirds the same as the tran ams??? I dotn see anything from many LS1.com sponcers that sale V6 particular kits. Looking underneath it looks the same to me.

It will sound like crap so you'll be throwing money away, get something made for a v6, everybody on here may tell you it sounds great!! That's because they'be never had anything else and don't know any better, there's no comparsion between a stock muffler and a flowmaster system, I have the flowmaster catback and it sounds great. As I'm concerned either do it right or don't do it at all, don't waste your money on something that's going to sound like crap and become annoying and embarassing after a few months.

Wow...is that a fact?

Funny...I think Flowmaster sounds like crap.

<----Flowmaster, but putting my Borla back on.

So you want him to discount others opinions yet accept yours?

Best advice...ever: FIND IT AND LISTEN TO IT FIRST-HAND.

Listen to ImportKiller. Exhaust is all opinionated anyway. Find some clips or even better, find a car with that system and if you like it, buy it, if not, try something else.

But back on topic, I believe LS1 exhausts do fit right up with our v6's.

If you end up considering to get a Flowmaster instead of take off exhaust, go with dynomax. Dynomax has higher hp gains and a deeper exhaust tone then Flowmasters. This is my opinion on the 3.8l exhaust. I don't know about the 3.4l, a lot of people here seem to like Flowmasters on their 3.4s.

Another reason i dont want flowmaster is becaus lots of people have them, and all your average joe talks about on his car or truck when it comes to exhaust is flowmaster. I just know i didnt like flowmaster on my LS1. I heard it on some V6s and it was kind of high pitched, and around here its rare a V6 not have a flowmaster. I want something deeper sounding like they dynotech i guess, which is what someone said. We want a 'DEEP' as possible for a V6 note.

Another thing, what it up with the V6 air lids?!?!?lol. its all off center!!! I tried to give her my old whisper lid and it wouldnt fit becaus the stock V6 lid sits wayyyyyy to the left. thats just retarded. I didnt see any aftermarket V6 lids at any of the many sites i looked at either. Man you 6 bangers got it ruff. ALso, we ran a non-turbo 300ZX tonight, got beat. Through i say the 1/8th i had a car and half, but by the 1/4th he had a car on me. I bet this firebird is a 15 second car capable of 14s with bolt ons, if it wouldnt falls on its face up top. Good off the line, but after that it seems to hit a wall.

The LS1 lid should fit on the V6 air box but the hole will be off centered like you said and I am not sure how much that would hurt the hp gain. Plus you'd have to by a hose to go from the lid to TB.

Thunderracing.com sells V6 whisper lids.

I found the v6 lids and hooker muffler, but this car needs all the help it can get top end, good out the hole but after that it hits a wall big time. FTRA will help.

I have a 00 TA standard exhaust in my basement, no one could figure how to attach the 2..25 piping up to the 2.75, they dont make a clamp in those sizes so good luck.

I ended up buying a Borla which came with a pipe that was toned down to fit my 2.25" front section.

First off the reducer you speak of. I had no problem finding one at nappa autozone or pep boys. If i recall correctly its a 2.25" OD to 2.75 OD. A slightly uncommon reducer because it is 2 OD measurements. If you cant find one at a local autoparts store, go to an exhaust shop, They will either have them, or can make them in a snap. As for the hanger if you have a 98+ car it should be the same. If you have a 93-97 you need the 98+ hanger and the indulator. As for the exhaust issue, its a matter of opinion which sounds the best. The fact remains that you cant make a 6 sound like an 8, there just isnt enough flow from the engine.

I really wish people on the board would use the search function. A lot of topics are beaten to death. Take of exhaust is one of them. I have replied to these posts many times in the past. Do a search for "takeoff exhaust" There are responses from arguing about how they sound to how to put them on to what exactly is needed to put them on.

Had one on the wife's 99 V-6 Camaro....needed a replacement after an accident. Sounded kinda tinny.....but not TOO too bad. Better than the flowmaster V-6's I heard.

I'd try Borla or someone else...just my 2 cents plus tax...
