Post Carbon Fiber Hoods!!!

ok guys, Who wants one??? We might be able to get some made through a board sponser. We can only have one hood design made for each car to keep costs down. I am thinking SS hoods for Camaro's and Ws6 hoods for trans am's. What do you guys think?

FYI-
I've been developing carbon fiber Camaro hoods for a few months now. We made 2 and trashed the mold, and are now finishing up carbon-specific molds for production.

We are producing flat hoods and cowl hoods in carbon. You're not likely to see WS6 and SS hoods due to the complexity of the shape (carbon fiber is usually not painted, thus the layout of the fabric is paramount) and if someone does make one, it will not be cheap.

Carbon flat and cowl hoods will be available this summer in the 6-700$ range depanding on if you want full latch or pins in the front.

Email Chris or Ricky at carbonkreations@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

These hoods CAN be painted if all you want is the weight loss of a CF hood.

you'll pay 6-700 for a suncoast hood, so if we could get one made of CF for the same price who wouldn't buy one? When you say "flat hoods" what are you meaning? i can see onthe camaro's, but on the TA/firebird, how would this be? I don't think a Ram air hood would be much harder to make, just has a couple snorkels on it.. but i've never done this so i really don't know. I would paint mine also. Maybe if it had CF inserts of something i would leave those...

If you are going to paint I wouldn't think it would be worth it unless it really was only $700-$800. Fiberglass hoods don't weigh that much and there are so many easier and cheaper ways to drop a few pounds off the car (lighter battery, seats, spare tire, bumper supports, washer fluid/bottle, carpet padding, etc..) I don't see how the added strength of carbon fiber is neccesary either.

You're right, A carbon fiber hood will only be a few pounds lighter than a fiberglass one. It will be many times stronger, but it's not a big deal for a hood to be strong. Most people who but them will not paint them because if you're painting it anyway, the cost will probably turn you to a fiberglass hood. Aside from being more labor intensive to make, a carbon fiber hood costs between 15 and 20 times as much to produce in raw material versus fiberglass.

By "flat" hood I meant a stock (non SS) hood.

98-02 hoods will be available first, if the demand is there, 93-97 and Firebird/TA models will follow.

A guy who bought one of the first prototype hoods we made is on this board, goes by 94Z28 I believe. He(Corey) drives a 98 Cayanne red Z28 and yes, left it carbon(unpainted)
