go to the junk yard man, i found one from a totalled out 2001 WS6 w/8000miles for $300! Plus you get the better brakes, if you have a LT1. I totally think changing the whole rearend is the way to go

Hey I got a friend who is selling a good 3.42 rearend. It doesn't have brakes, backing plates, or axles though. You'll just have to re-use your old ones. The gears are perfect, and the posi unit is new.
It's in Dallas, call 972-475-5656, ask for Ronnie. Just make him a reasonable offer.

400 for a rear? thats high. i got mine from smoke t/a for $250, and that included everything but the brakes themselves. axles and backing plates were included. i went from 2.77 to 3.42 and i was still running an auto, and it made a HUGE difference. then i switched to M6 and now i think i need some 4.11s
