Had a little action today

Well atleast the first part is ok. It was a nice day today and I figured would take out the beast out for one last spin before winter hits and I run across a nice Z-28 we play a bit and get a nice opening so we slow to 50 and go on three honks, he jumped a little on me at first but by about 90 I had a little more than a 1 car lead It appeared to be a stock A4 Z, cool guy gave a thumb up as we went on our ways. Now for the bad as I get back downtown on my way home I was on a busy little side road and passed a cop on foot wrighting a parking ticket, I had some Metallica on a bit loud, but no big deal though I had my seatbelt on, so I make a left and go on my way, well about 1 1/2mi away at a stop sign I let the tires and LM roar a little and drive about another 1/2mi I check my mirror again and see headlights coming very quick, shure enough it was the same cop He hits the lights and I pull over and he asks if I know why I got pulled over, I said yea I broke the tires loose, he says no I didn't see that you're tabs are expired.... doh I never replaced them from last winter while it was stored, I almost went a whole year on the old ones (b-day on 12-23) Well I guess a $55 ticket is better than careless driving!!!

Unless you know he saw you do it. Then lying isn't going to get you anything but more trouble/hassle. Being honest is gonna get you much better results in that case. Put on your best "I'm a harmless idiot, deserving of pity, not punishment" kind of attitude. Unless you obviously don't look the part it'll get you better results in the end.

Similar story- I got pulled over near my house a few months ago. I had jsut dropped the new engine in my Malibu and was so excited to get on the road for a quick test drive I didn't bother to put the hood on. Mistake. Got pulled over by a local about 1 mile out the driveway due to the lack of a hood (illegal). Then he found a few other problems.... Expired registration, expired inspection, no driver's license (since I was still wearing coveralls from dropping the motor in). Like you, I and the car were totally legit but hadn't been on the road for so long everything was expired or I just hadn't put the paperwork in the glove compartement. Staring down the barrel of HEFTY fines I did my best "yes sir, I'm an idiot, you're right, please take pity on me. I'm just a good old boy- never meanin' no harm...." It worked. He followed me back home and watched me put it in the garage with nothing but a stern warning not to drive it again until everything was up to date. Yes, sir!

Dodged: one big bullet.
