Interior rattles... everyone inside!
Ok, I've heard everyone complain periodically about the build quality and amount of interior rattles in our babies. I've been able to track down a few of these rattles, and eliminate them. What if we all worked together, to find rattles, eliminate them, and post what we did to make them quiet? I go down the road sometimes, and my car rattles so much I think its going to fall apart. The sick thing is, my 89 lemans is 10x better on road noise. Anyway's, I'll start the list, and hopefully we can make these a little less noisey. I'd much rather hear my exhaust than rattles
Drivers side t-top molding was rattling like crazy- I took the t-top and removed the plastic molding, and put a few spots of house caulking under there, you know the lightweight airy foam kind? Worked like a charm, and you would never tell it was messed with unless you took it apart again.
Passenger side rattle in the door- while I couldnt completely eliminate this, I did significantly cut it down. I got some dynamat from work (Best Buy) and I dynamatted my doors and behind the rear seat panels, behind the doors. Before you freak, dynamat is NOT that heavy, I used a bunch for good measure and it all weighed less than 12 pounds total. Made a noticeable difference.
Passenger seat rattle - This one drives me NUTS!! Doesnt happen when someone is sitting in the seat, only when no ones there. The seat is tightly secured to the floor, and can't think of what to do. Any ideas?
Ash tray lid rattle- After doing this "mod" http://www.phantomss.com/misc/2bucktrick/index.shtml
I had a little velcro padding left over, and I put a small piece on the lip of the lid, and presto! no more rattle.
That's all I can think of now, I will add more as I go along, PLEASE post your rattles and what you did to correct them. I will try to get pics, I'm getting a new digital camera shortly and I'd be happy to do this.
Mods, if you would want to sticky this, that would be cool, since it is beneficial to everyone!

Sure this isn't the seatbelt hitting against the loop ?
Also, I have a squeak/chirp noise that occurs during cooler temps - say 60F or below.
I have been told that it is probably the lower control arm bushings, and can be cured by lubing 'em.
been too lazy to find out so far ...
Thanks !!

For 93-96 Camaro's:
Rattle caused by Tape/CD holder below radio rubbing against the plastic trim piece around the radio. Just remove the holder and put felt/velcro piece between the two. You may need to layer it to make sure there's some tension in there.
That's the only real rattle I have in my car. The real annoying sound isn't an interior piece, it's the rear springs squeaking.

I have no rattles. The only squeak I have comes from the passenger seat.

They were incorrect. I took mine to the dealer a couple weeks ago and they fixed the same problem with mine.

Ahh I know this! You have to pull the door panel off, and those window slip regulators have to be tightened. Theyre y-shaped pieces of metal with felt on them, they align the window. They get loose over time, usually because people close the door by pushing the window.

My passanger passanger seat squeaks too.... something is slightly lose, or is getting weak.. only when someone sits down in it.
speaker rattles, door locks, and some plastic piece aroudn the area buzzing under loud music.
This disturbing, "snap" noise when I open my driver door after its been closed for a while.. It doesn't do it afterwards. It hink the last time my car was on a lift they musthave bent that fender tab in and bent it back out without tell me.. i just noticed it looks al ittle bent. but nothing seems to be rubbing..
passanger side door panel where the buttons sit in is loose - i had some outer door skin repair done a while ago, and I think they ddin't put it back on tight.
my catback needs to be slightly adjusted, it hits under some bumps.
when its cold outside, and the heaters on, all the plastic pieces on the dash squeak..
Generally,when it gets really cold outside, you can hear more tiny squeeks and rattles.. I think its the spring isolators and bushings..

I had an exhaust rattle that I couldn't track down. After checking the exhaust from manifolds to tips and finding nothing loose, I finally found the cause to be the heat shields on the driver's side.
I think I used a 7mm socket to tighten them and my rattle went away.
=======
After installing my Spectacle Solutions short shifter stick (similar to Lou's Short Stick) the shift handle would rattle while in 3rd gear. Plus, there was an increase of tranny noise. After trying a lot of things, I finally found something that worked and held up to the heat from the tranny.
I dipped the bottom half of the shirt stick into black Plasti-Dip (the same stuff you dip tool handles in). I applied 6 coats and all my tranny noise went away. It sounds like it did when it was stock. Oh, and it also holds the leather shift boot in place, keeping it from falling down.
=============
Driver's side rear speaker rattled (the one in the back seat, not the one in the sail panel). The screw wasn't staying in place. Again, Plasti-Dip to the rescue. I brushed a light coat onto each screw and put them back in place. The rubberized coating holds the scew in place, but you can still take it out without problems. Blue loc-tite would have probably worked just as well, but I had the Plasti-Dip handy.

Awesome. This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about. Everything posted has been great, but this is excellent. Where do you get this plasti-dip at?

Here is a good one for you guys. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.... the dinger for the seatbelt reminder and so many other things . Well, on colder days ( 50 or lower) it doesn't make that annoying ding ding ding. It sounds more like a doorrng dooorng doorng. I just laugh.. Mainly because I know there isn't crap that I can do, besides disconnect it.
