1996 SS=13.6 stock

Is this a little better than normal for a 96 stock SS, slp options include exhaust, differential, upgraded torsion, and hurst shifter?
It was about 65-70 degrees outside

R/T = .517
60' = 2.092
330= 5.788
1/8 = 8.845 @ 81.52 mph
1000 = 11.459
1/4 = 13.666 @ 102.4 mph

doing all of this on a set of almost worn out BFG comp t/a's

how much better have you guys seen a stock LT1 run, because I've not seen anything better than a 13.8 at Beech Bend.

There is a LT1 Formula that ran 13.3 in stock form. I'd say, however, the 13.6 @ 102 is very respectable! Congrats on your run!

later,

Mike

Nice stock time man. My 93 Z went 13.6 @ 100 when it was bone stock.

Sounds about right for a well driven 96-97 ss...they seem to run a tenth or two better then the base model...good times but not abnormal for proper driving

Question

**I'm not calling anyone a liar**, but I find it hard to believe that STOCK LT1's are capable of mid 13's when most stock LS1's are usually only good for mid-low 13's. When you guys are saying "stock", do you mean straight from the dealership to the track? or is that "stock", but with a set of E/T Streets and maybe some weight reduction or something? I find it hard to believe that a stock LT1 ran 13.3, yet my LS1 only ran 14.1 on its first night at the track? (granted, it was extremely hot and HUMID).

It can happen....my 97 Z28 ran a 13.9 with only CAI and Flowmaster catback. And that's up here at 4400 ft. (1.9 short time)

You've gotta remember that when I said "stock" SS I was including the fact that it came from SLP with upgraded exhaust, differential, etc... I just thought that time was pretty good for an LT1. Oh yea, my track elevation is like 498 ft. or something like that and it was about 70 degrees outside-so that helps some i'm sure... and as far as the driving part of it goes I've not had my license for 2 years yet, and have only been driving a 6-speed for about a month and a half, my R/T was .517 and I still sprinted to the 60' mark in 2.092... so I'm thinking I can squeeze a 13.5XX out of it (hopefully). I seen a magazine article that tested the 1996 SS in 1996 and their best ET was 13.49.

BTW: My buddy just took his 1998 Z28 and the best he could get from it was a 14.2XX at 99.XX. It's an A4 so I'm guessing that makes some difference and he has brand new toyo's of some sort on there.. maybe not the best tire for dragging, but it could have been a drivers race (not being one to brag on myself, thats just how it seems to me)

Nice numbers! Throw some ET Streets on there and you could see some very very low 13s.

My '94 took headers, cold air, cat back, shifter, and drag radials to hit 13.6's at 101...

Its possible, back in 96 when the ss's came out there was a guy @ Etown w/ a bone stock SS who cut a 13.6...Ive seen/actually raced against a 323 gear'd auto formula(94) who cut 13.7's stock so why not a 6spd SS w/ has the induction and exhaust work...remember unlike the LS1's the SS/Firehawk LT1 models seem to perform a tenth or two better then the base models w/ the slp upgrades....times and dyno's ive seen prove it

Wink

OK, I guess it's possible then with the upgrades, good gearing (3.23's or 6-speed) and likely good tires. It's probably a combination of bad gearing (2.73's) and/or bad tires on an LS1 that hurt their performance. I suppose with better gearing/tires, most stock LS1's would be good for low 13's or high 12's?

I bet elevation had something to do with that time! Sea-level track maybe?

My 96 SS ran 13.9 @100 with a 2.0 60ft when it was bone stock (6-speed).

A friend of mine bought a beat to hell 95 Z28, 6-speed. I mean, this thing was a real POS. Bald stock tires, dented to hell, even the stock air filter. I watched him roll a 13.7 @102 the first time ever at the track. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

There are some anomolies out there, and I don't mean just the car. It takes the right car, driver, conditions, luck.
