diagnose please

Hello, my 95's a4 is slipping in first gear at WOT. At part throttle the car shifts very hard ( I have the hypertech for firmer shifts), however I was hitting the rev limiter at full throttle. I tried to move up the rev limiter to 6400 and it still hits it. This problem only started when I switched my 2.73's to 4.10's. It seemed to happen right away. Yes, I have programmed that into the hypertech also to correct for the 4.10's. If someone knows if this is because of the gear swap, or if it's because something in the trans just so happened to go at the same exact time. If it's the trans, I'll rebuild whatever needs to be done. So if it is the trans, what would usually cause a WOT slip in first gear, and not at part throttle? Bands? Clutches? Any help will be appreciated.

i don't think the gear swap has anything to do with it... you said yourself its slipping

i bet if you redline it, and it doesn't shift, if you let off the gas a little and let the rpms drop some (maybe to 5000 or 5500?) it WILL shift...

check the tranny fluid...

if its dark (burnt) and not a bright red, you need a rebuild...

in an a4 you really can't just replace the part thats causing the immediate problem (ie: the 1-2 clutch pack) you basically need a full rebuild

and if there is indeed burnt fluid in the tranny, then its in the torque converter too and you'll need to replace that as well

sorry for the bad news.

but its time for an upgrade

If its hitting the rev limiter, and you consider that "slipping" then it is most likely programming. If you've got stock tires, use 25.75" as tire height, 6000rpm rev limiter, 4.10's, and adjust your shift points as far negative as you can. (-6 I believe) Also, DO NOT USE THE SHIFT FIRMNESS. Then go do a WOT run and see if it shifts or hits the rev limiter. If it shifts, then you've got a programming problem.

Ohh, also call Hypertech to confirm that your version can adjust the shift points fine!!!!!! Some versions have problems doing it.

i think his problem is the 2 clutch isn't grabbing and it will just bounce off the rev limiter at wot...

the exact same thing happened to me...

it was the first symptom...

1 week later my clutchpacks broke completely

I'm going through the same thing with my car. Except I went from 2.73's to 3.73's with no problems, then to 4.10's and experienced it the first time I railed on it. I set my shift points from 1st to 2nd all the way down to 5300 and it shifted perfectly at 6k. I was like WTF? So I did some research myself and found other people had similar problems using the hyperjunk with gear swaps. I contacted brian at pcmforless and he said he can fix that. So I will try that first and let you know how it comes out. PS, I already checked the fluids they are ok, and watching the tach until it reaches 5300 to 6k and it goes the same and the car still pulls just as hard so I doubt mine is slipping.

Hmmm...

No second "clutch" in a 4L60E. just a 2-4 band.

Your problem could very well be programing.

You have HPP so call them. I prefer to use one of the several tuning programs available to control my car
