6 puck SPEC stage 3?
Have they fixed the problems they had with the older model? I dont have a grand to spend on a McLoud.
Keep the forum, there are too many of the Qs in the basic engine forum.

i have the 6 puck stage III in carbon. I had the 4 puck that they had problems with.....it blew up! they sent me the 6 puck and I have no problems for over a year now. my dyno numbers are in the sig, and that is without the 150 shot. On drag radials at the track on the 150 shot, i had no problems with slippage or anything.

I have the star spec stage 3 setup (6 puck) and their lightweight flywheel. I will tell you how it is, but from the post before me seems like it will be good :-) As for what i had before, I had the stage 2 setup with the light weight flywheel. TO keep along story short, flywheel was cut to low from factory where they got'em, they sent me a new clutch, and upgraded me to a stage 3 setup for a small fee. Good customer service :-)

I've been looking to switch to the stage 3 & lightweight flywheel this year, I'm interested on more feedback from others that are using it. Good to hear it's working well for some people.

what type of material are u guys using on your stage 3's??? i know theres carbon, ceramic, and kevlar... i see one person said carbon... neone else??

The new stage 3's dont come in a surface choice anymore. They are a mix of the 2, seems to work better.

actually, when SPEC sent me the 6 puck, they asked if i still wantesd the carbon or if i wanted a different one (the carbon engages harsher and is supposed to have more chatter). i stuck with the carbon. i got one of the forst 6 pucks, so unless they changed it, they still have a choice of friction materials.
for a flywheel, i am using a 37 pound SFI approved centerforce flywheel (for a 2 piece seal crank since that is what i have).

Anyone else notice how TINY the springs and center on the Stage 3 clutch are? I have blown 2 Stage 3 clutches since January with a stock car and no track launches. Both times the springs blew out. Talked to a local clutch builder, he said over the past 6 months has been getting at least 2-3 calls a week about blown springs on Spec clutches. Turns out Spec uses the same centers on their LT1 clutches as on their 4 cylinder models (guy showed me the 4 cyl clutch, compared to my blown one.) which is why I blew the springs on 2 clutches in so little time. Spec tried to blame the blown springs on misalignment in the trans, or cracked bellhousing, bad pilot, or mounts, but in January when the first one blew, I replaced everything, then had everything checked out again when the second one blew and the only thing that was even remotely bad was the blown springs, 2 blew out of the center and 2 others were cracked. Spec then tried to recommend either their Stage 4 solid disc  or the C4 Stage 2 with a solid center. Instead went back to stock (for now) which if you compare side by side, the springs are MUCH more heavy duty and the coil diameter/spring diameter/spring length is all nearly twice the fairy springs in the Spec, which by the way am told are built in China, and the regular pressure plate is a stock plate, just blue, and the lightened one is the LT4 lightened plate, same as sold by SLP. The only good thing about Spec is that they do have good customer service, just cheap parts, which is why even their Stage 1 only has a 120 day warranty, where most others carry 6-12 months.

Man, that is my story to a T!!! I bought one of the old 4 puck design clutches (STAGE III Carbon). It lasted 6 months and the springs came out in 6 months. They sent me another one of the same design. It lasted 6 months and this one split in half and busted my bellhousing(never been to the track). They sent me a new design 6 puck carbon. I had it in the car for about a year and yes it had been to the track. But the last time it was at the track was in Dec. of 02' and it busted on me at a stop light in traffic last friday and left me stranded calling for a ROLL BACK!!!
Dave Norton told me after sending me this last clutch, that he couldnt help me anymore. So when this one busted, I didnt even bother calling him.
They have great customer service, but really shady quality.
Hopefully I will have a McLeod Street twin this week!!!
