LT1 in an IROC?
I have an 86 Iroc with a 305 that is starting to go out. I am thinking about swapping the engine for an LT1 out of a fourth gen. Does anyone know the horsepower specs on the LT1's. Also how hard is it to swap them? Are there any sites dedicated to the swap? Any info would be apretiated.

I have a 350 in my 89 Iroc and its a LT1 (5.7TPI)
so it might be cheeper if you swap it from a 350 iroc......

Aaron, A 350 TPI and a LT1 are very different engines. No 3rd gen came equiped with a LT1.
Brian, a LT1 swap isn't all that hard. If you do a search on www.thirdgen.org 's motor swap forum you will find tons of info. They were rated at 275 and 285 hp. You want a 94-95 one if you are going to use the stock computer, they were sequential fire but still OBD I.

Do a search here, theres about 5 or so members I've seen that have done this swap, myself included.
My website in my sig will provide you with SOME info, but its not really a guide...
Hope that helped!

Hey irocbob89...let me know how it goes and I'd like to check out the finished product. I'm in Chicago also and am just gathering everything I need to do the swap also in an '87 Trans Am to Lt1 6 speed. I'll probably start in the end of July if all goes according to plan. Good Luck!!!

Times are in sig. That was with a Moroso CAI and SLP headers and 3" exhaust. Other than that it is stock. The sorry 60' times will be fixed soon and then I should see much better ets. The mph is good though.

I'm as far southeast in Chicago as you can go...the neighborhoods known as Hegewisch actually. I can spit on Indiana from where I'm at. I will post whatever problems I come across but like I said before...I'm not starting until the end of July...currently just accumulating parts. Man this is going to be some big bucks.

Here are a few links I've gathered that may help. Another thing I've read somewhere is that a passengerside motor mount from a '94 Caprice can be used with out having to do any modding to it. If anyone can verify this please do so.
Also, if anyone has any other good info sites, please post them.

What is the benefit of going with the LT1 (or even LS1) over a built Gen I motor with the TPIS MiniRam II intake?
Is the LT1 worth the wiring changes as opposed to building a 355 or 383 and running the TPIS MiniRam intake and using the stock ECM and burning your own chips? I ask because I have a non-LT1 350, 1 piece rear main seal block that I planning on using for a 383 build up and running the MiniRam II intake. Would it be worth considering the LT1 (or even a LS1) instead?

IMHO, its not worth the money. You can buy a set of noce heads, cam, intake and some extra motor mods and make a lot more HP's over the LT1 motor for about the same price.
Not to mention having to re wire the engine bay...
I'm building up a 383 with AFR heads and miniram II intake and its costing my just a little more than an LT1 swap would cost.
