Angry Holley fuel pump.

ok, i have a 255lph fuel pump. well just the other day i went to start up my car. and i dont hear it working!. so me and my friends check for power. well its getting some. so at first i thought that maybe that was the problem. well my friend said that as long as theres some power, the pump still should kick on!. and its not. so im wondering if anyone else has/had one and had the same problem? any suggestions are greatly appreciated. im trying to see if theres something else wrong b/c i dont wanna drop that stupid tank again. its not fun at all!.
alright thanks guys.

Are you getting fuel at the motor?? I am not sure if you are fuel injected or TBI or Carb but the first place to start is at the motor. Nornally, you won't hear the pump if the tank is full. I have an Airtex fuel pump in my car, its a stock replacement from the warehouse that I work at. And it does tend to be loud when the tank is getting empty but not so loud when its full.

Good luck, post results/more info/ what you have done already.

Since he is running the 255lph pump, I would assume he is FI RedIrocZ. I have the Holley pump and haven't had any trouble... yet. For anyone who doesn't know, the Holley pump is made by Walbro. How are you checking for power? I would try replacing the pump relay. What is your fuel pressure? Like RedIrocZ said, you may not hear is going. The only way to be sure if its running is by your fuel pressure.

ok. pump works!. BUT!. power wire does not have power? so i got 12volts running to the power. bingo it works right. well ok so we run a wire into the fuse box that has power when the key os forward and none when the key is off. but when we do have power the pump stay on,. like its still primeing. and i hear like a whosh sound in the fuel lines.
i have 45lb of pressure when it primes. and it stays. and also my injectors arent opening.? what causes them not to open.
i went from a 87 stock top end, to a 89 slp, edelbrock intake. had fastchip burn me a chip so that it would eliminate the cold start. im getting no wheres! if anyone needs for info. im more then willing to list everything i have and had done. thanks

does anything on the same fues work? try your fuses, if not your fuseable link may be bad, or the ground for these may be coroded.

One of those wires coming out of the top of the tank is a ground that grounds out to the body, check the wire and its connection, you might have to put another eye crimp on and or a new wire. I had an 88 Chevy pickup (don't laugh their alot like what we have only their a truck) The fuel pump wouldn't make any noise. So I checked the fuel relays nothing, I checked the pump I was getting power but the pump wasn't working, Then I pulled on the groung wire and it fell of the body, I cut and stripped and crimped on a new eye lid and reattached and It worked great, I would suggest you check that ground, If that's not it... Start testing wires from the fuse panel back....

Sorry I couldn't help more..

the ground for the fuel pump is mouted under the passenger seat. and it perfect!. and i did check fueses!. like i said. but anyways,. my check engine light doesnt come on when i turn the key to the on position.
and i was told that if that doesnt work, your car wont run. b/c it acts like some sort of fuse. so ill be checking that 2morrow/

I know you said the fuses are good, but check the pcm fuse. and the fusible links coming from the starter. you have topull test them, they can be open inside the case and not look bad. dont yank on them though, slowly but gradually pullon them. if bad it will stretch the wirecasing.

FYI: when ever the key is on w/o the car running, the check eng. light should be on. that almost always means bad pcm. check to make sure your chip is all the way in and not loose. then check that you have power and ground to the pcm.

as for your fuel pump, when you bypassed it, it will stay on as long as it has power to it. the pcm usually only applies power for 2-3 sec.s to prime it, then it will stay off till the eng. starts.

but since you dont have check eng. light, no fuel pump power, no inj. firing (when cranking I assume you meant), all at the same time, your ecm is probably bad.

you got anyone around that you can borrow there ecm to see if thats it?

good luck.

chris

The fuse for the computer is in the engine bay, it should be an inline fuse connected off of the positive power wire that is connected to the battery, it will be a small orange wire.

Did the car ever run after you installed the new chip?

is that gonna be one of those fuseable links.? i would guess?.. cuz theres no fuse there, only a plastic type of cover or maybe fuseable link>? running from the positive of the battery to the positive on the starter..
