Trailer Hitch Questions

It’s getting time for me to head back up to school, and I’ve decided to take my bike up with me. Therefore, I need to get a trailer hitch on the back on the Camaro to tow the bike. After a little research, I’ve found two out on the market so far. Reese makes one that you can order off their website for like $120 and then U-Haul has a Sportframe hitch that runs around $165. Does anyone have experience with either of these hitches or any others they’d like to add into the mix? I’m looking for something that tucks away well when the hitch is removed and can be installed with having to make any real modifications to the car.

Second, has anyone ever wired up brake light wires to go with the hitch? I’ve never actually wired these up before since previously I’ve always towed with a truck that came with the wiring from the factory. So if someone has a tutorial or just a quick ‘how to’ document that would be more than helpful. Thanks.

Little more info...

I did a little more researched discovered that Reese doesn’t include the drawbar with the hitch. This brings its price up to 137.90, which is still less than 163.75 for the U-haul. I did find one other company called Hidden Hitch sells one that includes everything (minus wiring) for 119.95. They also have free shipping on anything over $100, so that helps a little too. Has anyone ever done business with these guys or know anything about them?

I had the same problem, I had to move back to school. I hated putting a hitch on my camaro, but I wanted one out of sight. I love the hidden hitch. The reciever is rectangular, so it's even less noticable than a box hitch. Also it bolts right up with no problem. It is kinda tough getting the bolts into the frame, but they give you bolt threadders, that help out alot. And it comes with everything but a ball

As far as the wiring, all you reall have to do is buy a pigtail at wal-mart and match the wires up. I tapped into the ones on the driver side brake light. They're all there and all you have to do is tap in to them, obvously, don't cut them. You might have to pull the carpet panel out of the way to get to the wires. Make sure the pigtail is long enough to go out the trunk to the trailer. I'd try to get atleast a 5-8 foot one. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's just the type of response I was looking for. I was wondering who made the rectangle ones, as I've seen them on a few cars and minivans in the past. It should hide away really nice. I guess I'll just order the hidden hitch. I know what you mean about not wanting to put a hitch on the Camaro, but I can't afford a "tow vehicle" so I have to do the best with what I have.
I figured that'd be the way to hook up the wiring, but I just wanted to check if there was an easier way, not that it's difficult that way. Thanks a lot.

Draw-Tite also makes good hitches. Don't know if they make what you're looking for though. They do make hitches for all makes and models of vehicles though.

Quick follow up question along these same lines.

Anyone have a link to a tail light wiring diagram?

I am trying to hook up my wiring and want to make sure before I go forward.

There are two yellow, a light green, a darker green and a brown. Can anyone give me a breakdown of what each wire is?

Much obliged!

Hmmm....I didn't realize this was the LT1 forum.

I believe LT1's only have 4 wires.

Maybe I'd be better posting this elsewhere.

I know this is an OLD thread but for search purposes, I had the DrawTite and it was a nice hitch

As for the wiring diagram, I think shoebox has it on his site? If not or if you don't get the info you need, check out these two sites that I made... might be able to figure out what you need

Oh, and anybody who is looking at the sequential lights, don't bother with the place I have listed on that page... I've got a lot of email lately saying nobody can get a hold of him.

another option is to take your car to a welding shop and have one made. i think it cost me like a 100 dollars to have one made and installed.

Well if you want to go the permanent route. I want to take mine off when I'm done moving.
