Cags, and shifting questions

Im still wondering what CAGS does... Does it just make you shift 1-4? Any disadvantages of removing it? Also... When you guys come to a stop light or sign or whatever, do you drop into nuetral and coast, or clutch downshift, clutch downshift, to 1st gear? 2nd gear, then neutral? Or what? Does one way cause harm, or any reason why one is better... Im new to the realm of 6speeds, so thanks for all your info guys,

By looking at your sig, CAGS only applys to people with a M6 tranny. What CAGS does is, it makes you shift from 1st to 4th. It wont let you do into 2nd. If you floor the car or go over 3,000 rpms, it wont go on. With most people with a M6 (like myself) you can just buy a CAGS elimator, it just plugs into the tranny and it will be gone.

To elaborate a little, there is no disadvantage to eliminating CAGS (Computer Assisted Gear Selection) - it's actually an advantage. Unless you're overly concerned about conserving every drop of fuel possible, then CAGS is just annoying.

As to driving/stopping with a standard? You can do whatever you want. I've driven standard for quite awhile, and I've been in the car with my dad who (obviously) has driven standard much longer, and I can tell you that it's mostly personal preference. Usually though, it's better to downshift into a lower gear so that you're ready to go again (ie: approaching a red light that you know is going to turn green soon) without having to "find" your gear again - you'd already be there. But in a case where you know you're gonna be stopping for a while, then you can pop it into neutral and coast up to the stop - no harm done either way. HTH.
