Post Slp loudmouth and straight pipe..Will that wear out the valves?

my friend told me that having the slp loudmouth exhaust or straight pipe on the Ls1 will wear out the engine valves faster..Is that true? will this type of exhaust cause the valves to to wear out and weaken? any comments?

Yea thats like a wives tell. Im not sure why all the "back in the day" drag racers say this. I have heard it by so many people too. Truth is theres been tons of guys running straight headers or just straight pipes for years with no problems.

More or less the guy who told you that should be working as the guy who cleans port-a-johns after a nascar race..and not have any real connection with any kind of job in the automotive field..
lets hope this is true

Maybe what he was thinking was running headers with no cats and a traight pipe. with no back pressure you could burn the valves, but with the cats on and just a straight pipe its just loud. I have a slp loud mouth and its the ****. I recommend it. only paid 325 from ls1motorsports.

That's probably what the person who told him was talking about, burning the exhaust valves if you don't have any back pressure.

Anyone know if race mufflers would give enough back pressure with true duals?

I want to try it on my Nova but my dad keeps convincing me not to so I don't burn my valves.

Even headers with straight pipe all the way back creates some back pressure, I'm pretty sure even with long tubes you are okay with straight pipe.

If you run cats, there is your back-pressure.

and I don't believe that statement to begin with, look how many people have been running around for years with borlas wide open or cut-outs. That's the same thing.

Does The SLP Loud Mouth "pop" when you rev it up or get off the throtle quick?

only time mine pops is when I'm decelerating from around 4 grand in 3rd on the highway, or around the same rpm in 2nd.
