Post rock chips

Anyone touch up rock chips themselves. I picked up a kit from Eastwood that has a small sanding block, sand paper, and some polishing compound and was wondering if anyone has tried this and what results they have had. Also anything specific that I should look for in a touch up paint (get from dealer, parts store)?
