Post Cleaning/Removing Armor All

I had my car detailed a few weeks ago and they put the armor all on my dash really heavy. Since I've heard that armor all builds up over time and should be stripped occasionally, I decided to do that with my last car wash. I used a vinyl cleaner/protectant spray(can't remember the brand) on a clean rag.

As soon as I started to rub this on my dash, it started turning VERY dull and streaky. I never thought it would get anywhere close to that dull by cleaning it. I got scared sh%tless and put armor all back over it immediately and tried rubbing it in good. At first I didn't think it was going to come back, but then it penetrated and came back to looking good.

My question is - should I not try to take the armor all off? If I should, what can I safely use? I think the arm rest seems to get "sticky" after a lot of armor all, so I thought it might be good to strip it.

I tossed the vinyl cleaner right away, so I can't tell you what the brand was.

I would have kept the vinyl cleaner and went ahead and stripped the AA and made the dash dull.
