My New Car, I need more HP!!
Hello Everybody. I just bought a 2000 Black Z28 with 39,000 miles for 16,800. I love the power(I had a 99 Grand Am).
I was wondering the Cheapest way To add HP to my car!!

bang for the buck would be nitrous..
But if you just got a used car, shouldnt you get used to it before adding power!?! Also, do you know whats been done to the car so far? How new to you is it?
By power are you wanting to drag race it or corner faster? What are you specifically wanting out of your car?
Do you have any idea how much power it has now? Have you gone to the track or had the car on a dyno?
These will all help you in deciding how to add your power and where it needs it.

Lid, KN Filter, and a cutout. Check out Installuniversity.com for the free mods to. These are the cheapest ways to pick up power. Then for a little more money get an LS6 Intake and Longtube Headers.
BTW Congrats on the new ride.

Congrats on the car though!
that means nada..
305hp could be what you put to the ground or it may be 280 you are putting down.. thats why you need to find out for sure or get to the track and find out how fast your car is and its weight if possible.
I know that more power wont help me until I get more TRACTION.. so tires are what I take with me to the track.. once I can consistantly rip off 1.8's then I will start adding things to get more power..
traction and hp.... delicate balance!

With a good heads/cam package you'll pick up a ton of power. I have guys with h/c and long tubes making 440rwhp. I was running a sale till the end of April were you could get the heads for 1440. The after sale price is 1700. That's fully cnc ported heads that flow 300cfm on the intake at .600 and 260cfm on the exhaust. The heads come with dual 1.440 springs, titanium retainers, new everything. We have stage 1 heads for cheaper if you are interested. Send an e-mail or call.
psychocabbage hit the nail on the head, dollar for dollar, nitrousing a car will produce the maximum bang for the buck, without tearing the motor apart.
Be careful what system you purchase though.
For the record my car is not nitroused.

As far as first mods would go, I would take it slow. Get some sub-frame connectors, a lid, and maybe an exhaust. Then, you can go from there.-Mike
First mod on ANY car should be a Cat-back system. Depending on how much you want to spend, $300-$800, you can get a cat-back. In my opinion, Borla is the best bolt on system. If you want to go cheaper, SLP Loudmouth, Hooker, Flowmaster, and many others
Next should come the air lid. Gives very good power for the buck. After that, get some chassis mods like sub-frame connectors. Then go back to the engine, depending on your $$$, you can get an can, LS6 intake, heads/cam, stroker kit, or supercharger (cheapest to most expensive
)
Of course you can't forget about the wheels.
It's all what you want to do really, but we can tell you if it is a decent mod for your car according to other mods and you can make the final descision
Good luck!

My 2001 Z28 with ONLY a lid and filter pulled 303rwhp and 304rwtrq... Providing about 15% loss or so with a M6 we're talking like 348hp at the fly.. so I'd have to say 305 at the fly is a flat out lie! .. maybe GM did there pull on top of the tallest mountain with an air temp of 110f+?.. maybe!
I need to do another pull with my Hooker cat-back and see what I can get.

dam i thought the prices in chicago were high
i got my 00 with 40k on it for 15
as for mods...get drag radials!
Congrats on the new ride! I'd do the free mods first and a little weight reduction, then check out the sponsors both here and at ls1.com, or ls1tech.com for these items:
Airlid
Cat-back
Headers (mid or long-tube)
LS6 intake
Pulley (ASP)
I agree with getting a baseline dyno and tune-up before buying anything. Other proven items include nitrous, heads/cam, strokers, and 12-bolts. I am not a big fan of FI, but it suit your needs. Good luck! Ben
