Post Can anyone make a 4L60E live?

I work at a Fbody Prformance parts and install shop, and wwe've been trying to figure this one out. We dont build the trannies ourselves, but we're trying to come up with some idea to make them live. We tried finding a stronger forward drum, but it seems none exists. ANy knowns remedies for having snap rings break? Is that a result of too much line pressure or?...

We have a 10.90 LS1 heads and cam car here that just blew apart a tranny that was built by one of the bigger names in 4th gen Fbodyland, and it was supposed to be able ot withstand 9 second passes. Who makes them live? We just converted a 6 speed 422 C5 to an auto in hopes of less parts breakage (tranny output shafts and Dana rears), hopefully the Rossler tranny holds up to it well

Check out the motor trend that has the lingenfelter corvette vs. the fighter jet. The vette runs 9.20's @150 with a 4L60E. I can't remember the name of the company that modified the trans but I think it was Rossler or something like that.

Nevermind I see that you are already aware of the company....didn't read the whole post

part are basic nothing Crazy.

Off the top of my head I used a Superior VB kit, .490 Boost,4340 Sun Shell, Sonnax 3rd gear Accu Check valve, Factory frictions and steel's, 4L65E planets, and a Yank 3,800 T.C.

You want to know the REAL key? Programming

They will NOT live forever no matter how much you build them I will not lie to you. Then again neither will any thing else I used to go through up to FOUR TH400s a season. I could rip the input shaft out of them almost at will. This was with a 327 I killed some of the best transmissions made before I started building my own

Feel free to E-mail me. I would like to hear exactly what you are breaking.

Thumbs up

Well, Ellis thanks for another great build on my car. The Alto red Band and 3/4 clutches do hit a lot harder on the street. After playing a few days I have already got use to the shifts (3200 PI helps). Now if I can just find the false knock with the long tubes!

Oh, and here is Ryan's 11.00 car Ellis, with now a 10.97 @ 125.3 off the gas at the end (bracket racing), 3700lb race weight, with alot a rwhp....You build some "Kick ***" tranny's

Try a C-6 rear planetary snap ring to go in the rear ring gear.

OK George, you show off!

If Chuck at FLP can build a 4L60E to hold up to the torque that is necessary to propel a 4000#+ vehicle to 190+ on the autobaun, that I would say, is respectable.

I find it hard to believe you had more problems with a turbo 400. A 4l60e is a hunk of crap past 500rwhp or 400. Sure 2 people have good 4l60es'. I'm sure it took you ten tries to re-build your on bullet proof 4l60e tranny. I will go for thee 1968 technology, with a gear vender that will support over 1000hp..

Boosted that is how you feel I under stand. Then again i have been at this for a while and know what I know

BTW A little fact for all of you...

The 4L60E has had a better track record then either the Th350 OR Th400 during there introduction

I personaly have had FAR better luck with my 700R4 dirivitives(700R4/4L60/4L60E/4L65E) then any other GM trans I have used and I have built and raced most all of them I would DAMN sure pick one of them over a TH350 ANY DAY!!

Then again that is just me. I mean hell 10 second 3,700 cars do not take much of a trans anyway rite?

BTW Boosted, George here will tell you I was running 14# of Boost on a 4L60E before you were thinking about it The blower and motor are long gone but at 50K miles the same trans remains with the factory clutches and Band in my "Bullet Proff" Trans Look before you leap

Good luck to you all

Ellis

Yeah, you can make it live... Just not for very long

I got sick of building mine up every year, so I went with a T-56. Everything was replaced in it, etc, but driving style is what REALLY killed it quickly. Oh well.
