New Member from Texas
Hello all,
I'm Andrew from Montgomery, TX. I'm about an hour northwest of Houston. I recently picked up a 1995 Z28 with T-tops and a T56. It has a mostly stock LT1 with the exception being a mild Comp cam, not sure on the grind specs though. I have a header-back custom 3" mandrel bent exhaust with Flowmaster glass packs and a DC high-flow cat. It also has an ACT 6 puck clutch/PP/FW combo. It has 132k miles on the chassis, and just over 12k on the LT1 and T56. I absolutely love it. My first car was a 1997 Camaro RS with a 5 speed. I told myself I would find a 6MT Z28 with T-tops one day, and the opportunity presented itself so I pulled the trigger. I have already used a plethora of info from this forum, so I appreciate the help! I recall the PO saying something about a chip, is there a way to verify that? It has an OBD port, but when I took her in for inspection (emissions) the ECU wouldn't communicate with the state inspection computer. I haven't plugged my scanner into the port yet but I have no SES light. Any info on that?

Welcome to the site and thanks for the nice comments.
The tech areas will provide better feed back on your specific issue, but if I had to "guess" I would suspect your car has a custom tune in the computer (OBD1) and you may just want to find a used stock computer at a local bone yard for inspection purposes.

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com!!!
Gotta love these LT1's.
Your PCM is OBD-1. But the ALDL port in 1995 is a 16-pin OBD-2 style port. They see the port, assume it's OBD-2, use their OBD-2 scanner, and naturally it won't connect. They need to look at the emissions label under the hood and verify it is OBD-1. Typically, inspection of OBD-1 vehicles does not include a PCM scan.

Gotcha, its an actual tune rather than a plugin. Thanks for the info, I assume it was tuned because of the new cam, I'm curious to see how it runs on a stock ECU.

When they pulled it up to the inspection computer I told them it needed to be run on the dyno. They said it had an OBD-2 port and tried it. It did communicate with the inspection CPU for a minute or two, it allowed them to run the preliminary test but disconnected after that. They ended up running it on the dyno anyways. I passed by 7 PPM in the emissions test. I love the car, I used to build Hondas so it's nice to have some real torque.
