Turning on Nitrous in mid run?
I have a NX kit with a Mallory 685 box that I use for my window and to pull time. What I'd like to know is can I turn it on mid way through a 1/4 mile run with all 3 parameters( WOT, over 3000 RPM, and FPSS) already met and it still pull the time and not hurt anything? The reason I ask is that I cant use it in 1st gear the car just spins off the line even with DR. I want to snap the switch on after I shift into 2nd gear, My switches are mounted in the ashtray of the console.
Thanks...
Thanks...

I'm in the same situation as you. I actually thought the 685 had a feature like that but I was wrong. It looks like we are going to need some kind of progressive nitrous controller or a first gear lockout switch which allows the min. and max. RPM to cycle once before switching on... How bad is it in first gear? Have you tried a smaller shot? You're probably already putting down decent power with the 847 cam. I'm probably gonna put in a 75 shot for now.
I'm looking at this it seems to have what we're looking for:

I was told to look at it from a safety point of view. Arm your system like usual but put a switch in series with the FPSS that you can flick easyly after you shift into 2nd. I'm not sure I'm going to have to put some thought into it.

Well, I and the guys at Nitrous Outlet are concerned that with the electronic WOT switch not being powered until you arm the system, that it may not see or recognize the signal and not operate the nitrous????? Have you ever done this?

I was not jumping on you about the switch, I guess I should have stated that I have a electronic WOT switch. I've come up with a plan and am going to try it tonight.... Well see how it works.

np... I didn't take it that way, I just had no idea you couldn't activate the n2o while already at WOT with an electronic switch. I know for sure it's not a problem with my mechanical switch.

I had nitrous outlet install their progressive controller and I really like it. You can lockout gears or have it open the solenoid over a few seconds to help this problem. For $250 it is a good buy to me.

Re: Turning on Nitrous in mid run?
I do everytime I spray. I have a w.o.t switch but I spray the car in 2nd everytime. Just hold it too the floor and flip the switch. It works I cut consistent low 11's with it. My 10.8 is spraying on the launch and shifting manually.

Re: Turning on Nitrous in mid run?
Hey Dennis, when you flick the switch while at WOT, does it take like half a second or so for the nitrous to hit? I was out testing this yesterday and I noticed that when I hit the N2O arm switch after going WOT it would take a split second for it to kick in (not instantaneous) Whereas if I leave the N2O switch on and just nail the throttle, it pretty much kicks in right away and spins the tires...

Re: Turning on Nitrous in mid run?
I put a long trucker switch on my HSW ashtray plate so when i shifted into second i can flick it with one finger with my hand on the shifter. It's in series with the ground on the FPSS and there's is no delay when i flick it, works great for me.
