306 cam+150 shot require more than 93 octane? Also when using racing fuel...?
I read on one of these threads someone asking if going over 150 shot on 93 octane(w/ timing pulled of course)was a bad idea. There were some mixed answers. Would it be a bad idea for me to even do 150 shot on 93 octane since I already have a 306 cam with LE1 heads?
Also when I go to the track if I use 110 octane racing fuel is retarding the timing necessary on 150-175 shot, cause wouldn't I yield better rwhp without the retarding? Thanks for any help.

Depends on your tune and how much timing is in it to begin with. I have run 150 shot on mine with stock timing several times when it had a 306. I'm not saying its safe, but I had no issues. If its a little rich you will be fine - if its tuned spot on or a little lean then the extra timing could make a huge difference.
On 110 you shouldn't have any problem running full timing - if it leaded watch out for your o2 sensor though.

On my setup, I dont run NOS without at least some race fuel (110 or 112). Its just safer and I also pull 4 degrees with a 150 shot. Would it handle it out the timing pulled, probably, but its just not a chance I want to take unless there is something on the line (money race, etc). Do you already have a NOS kit on the car?

I ran many of bottles thru my stock motor with the cc306 and pump gas. I was also pulled 8* timing and I did not have much advance in the tune. I found more power with less timing and a clean plug. Bigger shots still need the timing pulled even with 116 octane in the tank.

I just did it this weekend with my 306 cam and heads just as good as the LE1's. But i sprayed it on 91 octane ( all we have here ) 33* total timing ( that includes the 4* the PCM adds threw the RPM band ) and she hauled but, no knock, no retard.

So you sprayed a 150 shot with 91 octane and 33 degrees of base timing with the mods in your sig? Are those the results in your sig? What kind of DA that day?

The results in my sig are not from my runs last weekend. Those are with my T-56 all motor runs. ( need to update my sig sorry ) I now have a performabuilt tranny and 4000 converter. My runs over the weekend were at a local downtown event to raise money for a local track. It was on the street and only 330 feet long. My best run was 5.26@74
Looking forward to getting her to the track to see what she does in the 1/4

Well Brad, I wish you luck. If I were you though, I'd think about pulling some timing out of that thing before something bad happens. What plugs are you running and have you ever pulled them after a pass to see what they might tell you?

Just beacause a motor runs without much timing being pulled doesn't mean the motor is happy. If it is to rich there will not be much heat in the chamber, or power in the combo.
My car went 10.9's on the stock short block and heads, with the 306 and nitrous. With less bolt ons then most of other cars I have seen.

Thank you. Yes i did plug some plugs. They looked good, nice and clean, no peppering, and alittle black soot on the thread ring. I pulled 3 and 6 both look alike. But your right i may have a bit much timing in it. Might back it off to 28 and go up from there.
