150 Shot

I'm running a zex wet kit on my 97 lt1, the highest it comes with is the 125 jets. I want to upgrade to a 150 shot. Zex has the chart online for the jets i need to order but for the 150 jets it says must upgrade fuel pump. My fuel pressure gauge doesn't move to much now, it doesn't seem like it would be necessary but idk. So I was wondering....is anyone running 150 shot on the stock lt1 fuel system?

For $249 you can have a fuel system that can support over 600whp....how much would it cost to rebuild an engine becuse you lost fuel pressure.

Its just not worth the risk. BTW if you still have the stock pump in the car it is at least 12 years old.

Thank you for the sales pitch but that's not what I asked. With 150 shot and a stock based spec LT1 I won't be close to 600whp. Couldn't I just use a $30.00 Fuel Pressure Safety Switch in stead of spending $250.00 to ensure the risk of engine damage? I guess you wouldn't make as much off of that though huh

Let me ask you this....the kit that you are pushing, does this replace the factory fuel pump? or is it just some kind of add-on?

Thanks for the input.

My comments were not meant as a sales pitch.

My point was you have a 12 year old fuel pump that was meant for a 285 crank HP car....lets assume your bolt ons have added 25 hp to that number....and you want to add another 150+...for a total of 460+BHP. Ask yourself if the OEM pump still able to operate at 100%

I prefer to be nowhere near the limits of the fuel system, cuz when you exceed the capability you will damage very expensive parts.

The Racetronix kit will replace your in-tank pump and the wiring harness. It has a much higher volume of flow, and will have a consistant voltage supply from the AC generator. This will stabilize fuel flow under high demand situations. The thing to remember is pumps don't put out "pressure" they supply volume. The regulator supplies the restriction to create pressure. Once you exceed the volume the pump can supply you will rapidly lose pressure.

A FPSS is designed to save a motor in case of fuel pump failure, not the inabilty to keep up.

I suggest to every single customer I talk to to upgrade the fuel system before adding a nitrous kit to their vehicle. Its a relatively cheap insurance policy and gives you plenty of head room for future modifications.

Ahhhh....that makes good sense. Business is slow so although i agree it makes the best sense, I will have to wait to spend that much. I guess I'll hold off on upping the shot. Thanks for your info and professionalism.

I should have split it into its own paragraph...the real meaning was....anyone running a modified LT1 should be questioning the effectiveness of the fuel pump....not just the nitrous guys.

the motor burns fuel!!!
... nitrous is just liquid air with bitchen density and temp ...
the real power comes from the fuel not the nitrous.

to a large extent fuel pump and wet side is the "power adder"
the nitrous is more like a "power enabler"

I wouldnt run more than a 125 shot on the stock pump...You should still put on a fpss if you dont have one on already.

My stock pump run out of fuel at just below 350whp. I put a walbro in last week and my Air Fuel ratio in perfect now. So tonight I'm putting a 125 shot on her.
