Re: Will this work?

That's a Gen 1 SBC manifold. It has a different bolt pattern and bolt angles than the Gen 2 SBC (LT1). However, it is possible in most cases to re-drill the bolt pattern, mill the bolt head bearing surfaces on the manifold, or use 18* shims, and block off the Gen 1 SBC coolant passages - note the t'stat housing integral with the front of the manifold, and there are internal passages that don't exist on the LT1.

So the 96 up vortec one will not have the right angle? Modify the fuel rails to work and make block off plates for the distributer and t stat housing. Other then the angle and bolt patterns this looks fairly easy to mod.

Re: Will this work?

The 96 and up Vortec will be a Gen 1 SBC up to maybe 1999 in most trucks, followed by a variant on the LS1 engine (Gen 3).

I found this on Wikipedia:

(A 5.7L, 350 CI L31, Vortec engine has eight bolts attaching the intake manifold or four per head, as opposed to the traditional six bolts per head twelve in total found on older Chevrolet small blocks).
The "angle" is the angle of the bolts.

You may also have the issue of the increased height requiring an aftermarket hood.

Re: Will this work?

It's been done before. Bret made one probably 10-12 years ago (maybe more?) for a few members on this forum but the pictures are long since dead.

The intake ports will fit normal LT1 heads without issue but you're looking at some serious work to make it a bolt on deal...

Machine the front coolant cross over and weld up the holes.
Create a plug for the distributor hole.
Redrill the bolt holes and machine the mating surfaces
Mill the fins off of the top of the plenum
Machine some height out of the runners
Cut the cowl
Add a taller hood
Convert the fuel system
Remove emissions

I'm probably forgetting something in there.
