go to napa in their specials box and get the spark plug socket 3.99 and cut it in half... u just saved 20 bux......

I dont seem to need a shorter one on my headers (slp mid lenghts)

I also use a regular socket and don't have any major problems.

I remember someone on this board a year or two ago made a post asking if people would buy a special socket for $15-20 if it would make plug changes easier.

It was like a 20-page thread or something. I wonder if this is the same person...

getting long tube headers was my solution to the PITA spark plug changes.

Yes, and it is a darn good idea. One never has too many tools to deal with difficult access spark plugs on various vehciles. SLP sells those and they work very well with their SLP headers. I didn't buy one, but I did use a Craftsman plug socket and had it made into one. This isn't as easy as it looks. Anyone can hack off the end of a socket, but it takes some work to "align bore" a socket that is made from tool steel.

I can tell you such a socket can be very handy for those that you can't reach with just the socket on a wrench, etc.

The special spark plug socket cost me $20 @ slp. I don't do ebay. Anyhow I only needed it on one plug but you need a closed end rachet to use it. I got one at Sears. What really helped the most was a stubby extention 1.5 inch. Couldn't do the job without it.
Doesn't hurt to have a lot of tools in your bag of tricks.

That thing is a must with dynatech headers. No way in hell to get at #5 without one.

I made my own though. A sears socket, and a dremel. Grind out the square so the ceramic can fit throught it, and cut ogg about 1/2 of the other end.

I have a socket set that has a hole in the ratchet head that I found one day at sears. It's actually made for tightening nuts on long bolts (came in handy when i built my deck). At any rate it works great for plug changes because the tip of the plug sticks through the ratchet allowing it to fit into very tight spaces. BTW it isn't a Craftsman product, I believe it's call OSocket or something like that - been a while
