what do the difference between the RTV colors?
I am replaceing my oil pan gasket, and I want to use some RTV on the front and back so it wont leak again. All I have is black RTV. but when I took the old gasket off, it had orange RTV on it. Would black work? what is the difference?

Re: what do the difference between the RTV colors?
black will work fine
in general, black/blue is engine oil resistant, grey is gear oil resistant, orange/red is higher temp, copper is highest temp, not all RTV is made equal though, so read the package for the qualities of the enclosed product

the grey is the best the black turns to rubber and will failmsooner . i work for a chevy dealershep and that is mostly what we use . been down that block before . gm dealership gray the new kind they switched due to failure of the other or lioght grey permatex is the best ive seen as far as longevity.
