I have just over 75K on my Z & my 2nd water pump just went bad. Is this high rate of failure common, or just my bad luck?

Bad luck... & a lot of reman. units suck, a lot of times people will pay the extra $ for OEM GM parts.

Personally I've never had an american-made water pump, regardless of manufacturer last more than ~60k. The one on my Z has been replaced twice in the last 80k. Once in a while people get good use/life out of them, as mentioned above.

my stock wp was working fine at 125K when i blew my engine, it wont be going back however.
