water pump drive gear

Re: water pump drive gear
The WP drive assy in my '96 LT1 "chatters" really bad. I'm sure the rear bearing is shot.
I priced a new one about 2 years ago... it was over $200. But the electric WP conversion is nearly as much. Car has been parked since.
Now I'm ready to get it running for the spring. A bit frustrated to learn that the part is discontinued.

Re: water pump drive gear
When I did my cam upgrade last summer I faced this same problem. I don't know that my original assembly was bad but while I had the engine out and torn down I wanted to look into replacing the part.
I decided to order two of the part from different people on EBay, of course they were used parts. One seemed better than the other and better than my original so I took the one that seemed the best and installed it. I've saved the other two for future "just in case" scenarios. Not a solution to your question but how I decided to go.
It is a shame that so many parts for the early 4th Gen LT1 are being discontinued but that's the way it goes. Hopefully our cars will become classics soon so that restoration companies will begin reproducing parts for our cars.

Re: water pump drive gear
Found the part numbers from 2 years ago...
LT1 = 10219554 (mentioned previously in this thread)
LT4 = 12551727
I'm not sure why LT4 is different... beefier??
NAPA had a number for just the bearing (P6201-2RSJ)
