Transmission uncertainty
Im putting an LT1 out of a 1994 caprice into my 2001 f body convert that was originally a V6 auto. the LT1 has the trans with it which is also auto, i was just wondering if id have to look for a new trans computer as well or if the trans from the V6 to the V8 were similar enough that i could use the same computer?

Re: Transmission uncertainty
After 1994 GM changed the F-Body 4L60E from a switched torque converter lockup to a pulse width modulated lockup. The 94 will not work in any other year. Not sure if they did the same thing for the B-Body LT1.
You will have to run the LT1 with the 94 B-Body PCM, so the 94 trans and engine will run just the way they did in the Caprice. It's going to be a challenge to interface the 1994 B-Body PCM harness with the F-Body body connectors, and the 2001 body control module (BCM)
And there is no separate "trans" computer. PCM stand for "powertrain control module". The PCM controls both the engine and the transmission. So you pretty much have to keep the 94 components - PCM and wiring harness, LT1 engine, and 4L60E trans together in the 2001. There are aftermarket stand alone trans controllers you can buy, but that's just another complication, since the 94 PCM will be looking for the 4L60E.

Re: Transmission uncertainty
with enough knowledge, time & $ anything is possible but IMHO you will have a simpler swap to go LSx with auto for your 2001

Re: Transmission uncertainty
Won't work. PCM connector is different. 94 is switched converter lockup, 95 is pulse width modulated lockup. Only another 95 4L60E will work with a 95 PCM, not a 94, not a 96 or newer.

Re: Transmission uncertainty
The 95s PCM programming is not the same for the trans. You should flash the PCM with a 94 program to eliminate possibility of issues (especially with the TCC solenoid).
