too much cam?

too much cam?
I want to upgrade my cam this winter for next season. I don't want to get deep into this motor, just want to maximize what It is and make it to the end of the year. WE are going to do a nice 4 bolt build then. I am looking at the Comp Cam CC-306 grind (with appropriate tune and spring upgrade). Is it too much lift and duration for a otherwise stock motor except open long tube headers and a CAI? I also am concerned that the link style timing chain used on the first gen LT spline drive won't handle the added stress. Lastly, should I go to a adjustable fuel pressure regulator while I'm at it?
The car is full weight with 275 50 slicks, 4:10 gears and now sports a built 700R4 with a 2500. I would be tickled pink to be able to run in the low 12's with this setup.

Probably going to need more stall for that cam. I'd probably just stick a replacement chain on the original gears if they aren't worn down too badly. You don't need an adjustable regulator though you will need a tune.
Personally I would talk to somebody about grinding a cam. Not much more expensive if you're getting a new cam. Plus you can use newer lobes for better manners.
