Re: too high mileage?

I wouldnt do it if you cant afford to rebuild the engine when it goes out.

You would need cam, pushrods, and springs at bare minimum.

Preferably lifters, rockers, and timing set also. Not to mention headers, CAI, ect that are needed to support a cam'd engine.

Re: too high mileage?

im soon to have long tubes, and i have the rest of the stuff to support the cam, and was planning on getting all the valvetrain components. i was just asking as far as seals needing to be replaced, or things that could possibly break. i was also planning on replacing the timing chain

Re: too high mileage?

You just need the timing cover gasket set, and the intake gaskets.

Can be purchased all together Here

Might be a good time to replace your waterpump and opti if they are old also.

Re: too high mileage?

commonly engines with your mileage will not take well to spinning up to the rpms that a cam that large likes. (ie 6200-6600rpm) i wont tell you that if you do it, that you will for sure have this problem though, because under the best circumstances it all works out, with that said, i would go through the bottom end and replace the main, rod, cam bearings, and have a new set of rings, hone, and putting it back together. thats what i am doing just because of the countless horor stories of guys not making it out of their breakin period before spinning some bearing. just a heads up, you should at least make sure the oiling system is up to par and that your cam bearings look alright before you slid the new cam in.

good luck,
james

Re: too high mileage?

if you have a new set of bearings, rings, etc. etc. then i'd say you dont have anything to worry about (unless your considering the transmission and rear end, then theres anther story )

Re: too high mileage?

New power on old parts changes wear patterns and causes bearings to do the nasty.
