Tired of replacing fuel pumps

Tired of replacing fuel pumps
My 3rd fuel pump is now DOA. Does anyone know of a brand or model pump that will live longer than a year. Sick of dropping the rear end to get the tank out of my convertible. Not willing to buy a dealer pump again.

ACDELCO # FLS1077 or DELPHI # HP10036. Both available at Rock Auto at a good price. I've used the Delphi on mine and son's 95s. His was replaced 3+ years ago, and my original (220k+ miles) was replace approx. 1.5 years ago.

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
I bought a walbro. Died after a month and left me stranded. I cut the hole in my hatch so I was able to replace it on the side of the road with a replacement.
That one went bad after about a year.
I then bought a used walbro from a forum member and it has lasted me for the last 7 years.
My point is - I wouldn't buy a walbro.
If you are going through pumps that often, be sure that your fuel system is clean and that there are no obstructions.

Check the voltage at the harness connector over the rear axle. Needs to be at least 12V.

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
Thanks Tim, but I think I'm done with that AC-Delco model. It may be bad luck on my part, but they are made in China. Maybe the Delphi would be a better choice.
I certainly will check voltage and if there is any fuel system contamination. Really appreciate the info.

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
In addition to voltage, when you pull the old pumps out, it there evidence of sludge or rust on the sock? Do you frequently run the tank level low? Are you reusing the bucket with the new pumps? Does your local fuel contain high ethanol levels?

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
Actually Fred the pumps look like new when I pull them out. Other than the plastic looking a little yellowed. The Delco pumps that I have purchased from the dealer come complete, so I never re-use anything but the cover ring. I have never run ethanol in any of my vehicles. Lucky to have real gasoline where I live. I do not run my car in winter, so it always sits with a full tank. I thought that could be the problem.(Sitting for long periods?)

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
I will check the voltage tomorrow as I will be working in my shop. I did buy a new relay last year just to have 1 in stock. Maybe I'll get lucky!

Re: Tired of replacing fuel pumps
I used the racetronics "hot wire kit and their pump (walbro)"
