If the sensor was flat, broken, you would have a SES light. If it has a glitch or bad spot, it could cause intermittent problems. The best way to check it is with a scanner. With the key ON and engine not running, you can watch the scanner and see if it goes from 0 to 100% throttle as you press the accelerator pedal down. The sensor can also be tested with a meter, but it's a little hard to do with it on the car.

It's located on the passenger side of the throttle body. It's black plastic and has between 2-4 alan head bolts holding it on. From what I understand it measures the throttle position and sends that electronic msg. to the computer, then the computer bases that mixed with vehicle speed to determine when it should shift. If your having shifting problems that might be the culprit. I replaced my waterpump awhile back and somehow when I was wrenching I accidentally hit mine and smashed it. Afterwards if I floored it the car would shift into 2nd gear at about 3000rpms, I could never get to redline. I replaced it with another and had the same issues so I thought I screwed something else up. I decided to get another one and replace that to be sure. Turns out the original replacement was faulty also, after the last one was installed I was problem free. It might be something to check into, it's not too expensive. Under $25 bucks I think but I can't remember, maybe only half that cost. Ask if they'll let you return it if you don't need it. Or if it doesn't fix the problem just tell them you never installed it so you can get your money back. It's not something that's ruined by an install. As long as your fingerprints aren't on it they'll never know. Good luck, hope that's it.
