throttle position sensor adjustment
Is there any way to adjust the tps? Idle speed adjustment?

On a stock TB, there should be no need for adjustment. That is why there is no provision to do it. Only if there is some trouble indication (usually a code), should there be cause for concern. Maybe if you gave more reason why you think this is needed. Aftermarket TBs often require slotting of the mounting holes to achieve a TPS reading in the stock, closed throttle range.

I thought the tps would only cause erratic shifting, does it also cause rough runnig, etc?
I can tell you that I got a TPS voltage too low code and I took my tb off and cleaned everything, expecting to solder, rather than crimp the tps connector wiring I had crimped months ago, but it all looked really solid. So I buttoned everything up and checked it with a scanner and it was above the minimum voltage and the code didn't come back when I started it. But that may have been some kind of fluke. My TB is a stock TB ported to 54 mm.

Speaking first hand, yes your car will run like crap and shift like crap if your tps isn't adjusted properly.on an aftermarket tb you enlarge the boltholes of the tps so u can turn it clockwise or counter clockwise. You use a multimeter too read the voltage off the blue wire. Depending on what year your car is the voltage should vary slightly.

BTW, idle speed is controlled by the PCM.
I see on your other thread the shop told you to change the tps. Did they give you a reason for wanting to change it?

The scanner didn't show anything about it. The problem I'm having seemed like the tps could possibley be bad. But I changed it and the car ran worse so I put the old one back on.

I really don't know, the first shop i had the car in scaned everything. this last shop I took it to just told me to change the tps to see if it helped my problem before I leave it with them next week. I'm goint to try and test the tps today.

I cant get to a scanner till monday so I just tested the tps with a multimeter and with the harness disconected the + (grey wire) reads 5v with the harness connected it also reads 5v. the ground(black wire) wire reads .6 ohm's with the key off and .477ohm's with the key on.

Since i'm on this subject I have a question about the coolant temperature sensor affecting the ground wire to the tps/making the fans come on rite when i turn the key when cold or hot. it isnt on my z28 its on my grand prix but i'm sure these thing are the same concept.
