stud on rear header bolt hole, no room for nut
Here's my problem. On the passenger side the rear bolt hole (header bolt) on was pretty messed up. I was able to jimmy rig a halfway decent tap system and clean it out enough to get a stud in. So I slip on the new gasket, slip the header on and then go to put the nut over it and low and behold the header is too close to the stud to twist the nut on.
Using a bolt isn't possible because the tap only works so deep when I tried doing it so the bolt head wouldn't be flush with the header flange and thusly wouldn't hold the flange close enough to prevent a leak. I tried cutting the bolt but then enough of it wasn't in to hold it in. I'm not enough sure if the stud system would work but I'm desperate and don't want to resort to pulling the head.
Now I'm thinking of changing the headers to a different brand (the ones I have now are JBA). They need to be shorties carb legal in California. Anyone know of any brand that gives enough room in the back passenger bolt area so that a nut would twist on? The rest of the bolt holes are fine and I can use a regular header bolt. How are the MACS?
