Stroker oil leak on front?

I just had my motor rebuilt and it is leaking oil around the timing cover/front seal. My builder replaced the timing gasket and front seal, but it still leaks. He is suggesting that I put a crankcase evacuation pump (from an LS1) in to reduce pressure in the crankcase. He thinks that should help. He said that the stroker LT1 motors have this problem, that the LS1 motors do not. My car did not leak oil the first 100K (stock motor), but after that it did. I saw that somebody here suggested tie-wrapping an o-cello sponge under the leak (My poor car will always be on the rag...). Does anybody have any other thoughts?
Thanks.

Re: Stroker oil leak on front?

There are 3 seals on the front cover, Which one is leaking? The crank seals don't normally leak. It's probably the Opti seal or waterpump. You have to be careful installing the the Opti or that seal will leak, I will be fixing mine when I get around to it as it's only a little leak. It really doesn't make any difference whether it's a stroker or not.

Re: Stroker oil leak on front?

joe; i had a problem like that not too long ago, except i was installing the seals myself. Replaced them once and they still leaked. Man i was about ready to put a tampax on the car cause i cant stand oil leaks. Then one of the members here pointed oit that the opti and waterpump seal say to install dry. as in no oil on the opti or waterpump shaft as they are teflon. Pulled it apart once again cleaned the assembly lube i put on the shafts oiff and put it back together. 100% leak free! The seals are marked " Install Dry" I guess i was smarter than them! So smart i couldnt even read

Re: Stroker oil leak on front?

another good poss., if the front main seal is leaking, is there might be a groove cut into the dampner hub from the orig. seal. if the hub doesnt look/feel perf. smooth after hitting it w/some emery cloth, replace the hub. but it may need to be rebalanced if your stock one had any weight removed as mine did when they zero balanced the externals.
