Starter will not crank

I recently did a th400 swap and replaced my auto shifter in my 95 Camaro Z28 with a Cheetah shifter. Now it will not crank. What do you do with the plug that went to the shifter that has the yellow, brown, orange black wires and 3 others? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

Re: Starter will not crank

Does the Cheetah shifter have a park/neutral safety switch? It needs to be wired to the old harness connector wires. This diagram indicates there's a yellow wire to one side of the switch, and a brown wire to the other side.

Don't confuse this issue with the cable that connects to the ignition switch and won't allow you to turn off the ignition unless the trans is in "park". I think the response you got on ltxtech might have led to some confusion.

You also will not have to use the wires that connect to the solenoid on the stock shift that only allow the stock shift lever to move if the brake pedal is on the floor.

There's also a backup light switch, that uses a brown wire on one side and a light green wire on the other. Does the Cheetah have a b/u light switch:

Re: Starter will not crank

Thanks for the quick response. I wired the neutral safety switch on the shifter to the purple wire. I'll move it to the yellow and brown wires. I did try to jumper the yellow and brown wires together while I had the neutral safety switch wired to the purple but still nothing.

The shifter doesn't have a b/u light switch. Does it have to be wired up?

Re: Starter will not crank

Only if you want your B/U lights to work. Won't cause any problems if it isn't hooked up.

Re: Starter will not crank

Thanks, Fred
I have another question. If I use 26x10-15 Hoosier slicks on 15x10 pro stars with 7.5 bs will I have any clearance problems?

Re: Starter will not crank

That tire has an 11.0" section width. I ran Hoosier QTP 28x11.5-15 (11.2" section width) on the same wheels and the only problem I had was some rubbing of the tread on the leading edge of the fender opening when the tires grew at trap speeds over 120MPH. I moved the axle back a 1/4" with the adjustable LCA's. But you won't have that problem with 26" tires.

The inside edge of the tire should not be a problem. My rear inner fenders had already been hammered to fit 315/35-17's BFG DR's so I didn't have a problem. I moved up to 28x10.5-15W (13.1" section width) and no problems with the inside edge of the tire, or the outside edge and the fender lip.
