Shoebox radio electrical

Ok shoe box I have a 97 trans am m6 big stereo system, I had the same prob i had a alpine unit in there it would cut off while playing a cd, thought it was skipping and so i proceeded to turn it on radio did the same thing it would cut off like cd was skipping , and turn itself on and off. switched head units to see if its the radio did the same with this head unit turns on and off while driving or parked. What are your thoughts sometimes when I put the key in the ignition it doesnt make the Ding ding noise could that be the prob ignition, I looked at your R.A. P. sheet cant make out the module pic to small. What are your thoughts. Angelo thanks ..... oh the radio does not cut off like cd is skipping just turns on and off with this head unit....

Possibly the igniton switch. I would do some more testing to prove it. Things that are powered when the switch is turned on should be checked for power. You can do that right at the fuse panel. The RAP functions on a 97 are contained in the BCM.
If you did any wiring adaptation for the stereo, you might want to check that, too.

Re: Shoebox radio electrical

You should be able to look at the fuse panel and figure out what comes on with the key (accessories and stuff). A meter or test light will tell you as well. Don't be totally helpless.

Look on my Tech Page for instructions/location about the ignition switch.

You don't even have a RAP module. I just like people having a little initiative in helping themselves. You can often learn more by doing a little poking around than just reading some steps someone lays out for you.
