Rebuild or Replace??

I have a lt1 with 115,000 miles on it, in a Z28... I was told that I need a crankshaft kit to stop the engine from making a grinding type of noise when I start it up. I'm wondering should I do a rebuild with the crankshaft kit or simply purchase another lt1. Keep in mind, that I am a college student and looking to spend $2500.00 max. I need some opinions on cranks, piston, and etc also... Thanks to everyone, any information would be helpful.

I don't know about needing a crankshaft kit because of grinding during start up. Hows your oil pressure and are you leaking oil out of the rear seal? How does it sound when it is running, any knocking noise?

Yes it makes a knocking noise, and the oil pressure seems to be fine... I'm not sure if its leaking from the seal or not.

Standard or automatic transmission? grind noise when starting is usually the starter or flywheel. a loose or broken bolt on the torque convertor or a cracked flex plate will make a knocking noise. I just don't know how anybody could tell you you need to replace your crankshaft without a tear down of the motor.

Definitely need a "second opinion" on this one before blindly replacing the crankshaft.

I definitely think so too... But its and automatic, I started it up yesterday and its more like a squeaky, squealing noise... It's definitely coming from the motor. Next time ill get a video and post the link.
