Quick questions about RR's and such

I will be buying components for cam, rr's, etc...and have a few quick questions.

car is a 94 LT1 and going with the CC305(would go bigger but emissions probably won't let me.)

Stock rr's are 1.5 correct? If going to 1.6, is any modification needed for fitment? If they are larger, will tapping or anyother noise be a problem? or is it just easier to stick with 1.5 and just put in newer ones? Basically...what is the power output difference?

I've noticed that their are 7/16 and 3/8, why would one be better than the other?

Springs - I have heard that here and there modification to the heads is needed for some springs. I need a good spring set that i guess can handle the load, and no modification needed.

I know i don't know too much about this, but you gotta learn somewhere. I'll also be putting headers on at the same time since the motor will probably be pulled anyway, right? figured it would just be easier...

Re: Quick questions about RR's and such

k...stock rockers (technically not roller rockers) are 1.5. I went with my stock rockers because I didnt have the cash for 1.6rrs and its not a major difference unless your trying to get every inch of power out of the car. It changes the lift numbers and if your trying to pass emissions the 1.5s will probably be a good route (unless you can afford the 1.6s..then I say go for them)

The sizes you posted are the stud sizes..I believe the 3/8s are our stock size..so you dont have a choice.

I went with http://www.cmotorsports.com/93-97-fb...ine-valvetrain EX-612s. They fit right on your stock head and are good for .600 lift. Im using them with my 306 so I know they would work for you.

I did the same thing...I actually put the headers in with the engine already in.. just had to lift the drivers side of the engine a little bit to get the drivers side header in. Went really smooth. Hope that helps some?? Anyone else?

Re: Quick questions about RR's and such

The rocker studs are all 7/16" on the end that screws into the head. Small block studs are 3/8" at the rocker end though while BB's have 7/16" at both ends. When upgrading rockers on a small block, it can only help to also upgrade to a 7/16" stud. A set of rocker studs is ~$20-30. As long as you are upgrading, 1.6's make sense provided the springs can handle the extra lift. Be sure to check and be sure your pushrods are the right length after swapping the cam and rockers. Usually, stock length is ok for the type of combo you are describing.

Re: Quick questions about RR's and such

ok, so I don't HAVE to upgrade to 1.6...is it only a few horsepower more?

One other thing...programming.
I know there are some cams that don't "require" programming. With the CC305, how would the car run before reprogramming, and how long will it run without it...just trying to get finances in order before jumping in to this...

Re: Quick questions about RR's and such

The 1.5 rockers will work perfectly and would cause less strain on the valvetrain (though wont provide the optimal performance). Im using the stockers for now, and my understanding is its realistically a ~5rwhp difference if that. (someone correct me if im wrong)

Im running without a tune for a lil while... the car behaves decent enough to drive/cruise, etc...with as tame as the 305 is compared to the 306 I would say you could get by without a tune for a while.

Re: Quick questions about RR's and such

Well, you will gain hp for two reasons. Any roller rocker vs. a stocker is worth a few ponies and the 1.6 a few more. So, figure 10-15hp for the switch.
