Probe FPS forged pistons...opinions?
My buddy and I were tuning my car the other day and did a few WOT runs to make sure that it wasn't leaning out up top. On the last run, we heard something let go (even though it never went lean)...we assumed it was a rocker stud since I had just swapped in 1.7 rockers. Well, it wasn't. Plug #7 is flat and it's way low on coolant...oil is milky. Looks like another piston let go (just like last time).
I'm planning on taking it from 0.030" over to 0.040" over to make sure the bores are straight and throwing in a set of forged dished pistons to drop the compression ratio down from what it is now (read: too much for the Speed Pro hypereutectics that were in there). I'm looking at these Probe forged pistons:

$396 for the set and they come with a set of Total Seal rings. They should bring my compression ratio down to somewhere in the neighborhood of 10.8:1. Any opinions on these pistons? I know they're not top dollar, but they're within my price range and they'll be good enough for what I plan on doing with the car.

One more thing...I"m still running stock rods in my current setup (reconditioned, of course). I'm also looking at this combo (6.0" rods and pistons instead of 5.7"):

I'm leaning towards this combo...opinions on this setup? The pistons here are the SRS instead of the FPS (FPS series doesn't have a piston for a 6.0" rod).
Also, when they say "+0.300 long" in the description of the rod, what does that mean? The Eagle 5.7" rods just say "stock".

Probe has some VERY nice stuff ,started out as mainly a Ford supplier, but now makes stuff for GM applications. I have used thier SRS line of pistons before. All of my 383 internals that I am building now came from them, Knife edged lightweight crank, I beam rods and .030 over dome srs series pistons. Prices are reasonable for good quality stuff.

Re: Probe FPS forged pistons...opinions?
i have 12cc dish top pistons from them and have been spraying 250 plate shot on it over 100 times with no problem and it's a street car, going to a 300 shot shortly.
