Starter problem - solenoid?

Starter just clicks when I turn key.
The starter pinion is extending to the driveplate but not turning.
The starter motor however does operate when 12v is applied to it.
It is the solenoid?
If so, can I swap it or do I need a whole new starter?

What variable are you inducing on your starter that allows it to receive 12V? Under what circumstances is it NOT getting 12V? If it currently is NOT getting proper voltage, then that is a problem for ANY starter, 100k mi. stocker and brand new LT4 alike. Don't go buy anything just yet.

Re: Starter problem - solenoid?

Fixed - swapped solenoid. The solenoid operated but it wasn't tranferring voltage over to the starter motor once the pinion extended. Unfortunately that part of the solenoid didn't come apart.
