Angry Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

Has anyone had any problems with their steering linkage rubbing on the headers. I just installed a set of pacesetter mids, and now the steering linkage is rubbing on the header tube from the #3 cyl. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

if you've already removed the black plastic cover over the knuckle, then you can check/replace your motor mounts if they're bad, or clearance the primary

Re: Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

i had the same issue with my pacesetter LTs.

what i did, was loosen the streering linkage both ends, then slide it as far away from the firewall as possible, and tighten the bolt to the top down, and then the bottom.

hopefully you'll see what i mean when you get down there and do it. because there's more than 1 location for the bolts to go through, they can slide about an inch or so.

Had this same issue with my hooker long tubes. Take a rubber mallet to the tube thats giving you trouble, or a hammer wrapped in cloth.

I had trouble with my jethot lt's. It was with the top part of the steering linkage I believe those lip deals the come off of it. Took a crow bar and bent them in no more rubbing.

Did you bend the header tube with the crowbar?

Re: Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

Well I ended up having to bend the tube. The motor mounts were fine and the linkage was adjusted as far as it would go. I ended up having to put a torch on the header and putting a dimple in it with a prybar. Its at the muffler shop now getting the "cat" welded on the new y-pipe.

Re: Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

ooh, should have just thrown in some poly motor mounts. Even though the stock ones "looked" fine, I'm willing to bet they were pretty compressed. Compared to new ones, my old ones were a solid 1/4 inch shorter.

Re: Pacesetter Headers vs. Steering Linkage

I put a screw jack under the engine and lifted it up a bit, but with the way the headers were shaped we still would have had to bend the pipe. I guess you get what you pay for.....

Are your headers coated? If so did the finish melt off?
