Opti Problem?

I run my car most days its fine; but others the car will run then stall @ a light; and if i try to restart it sounds as if only half the cylinders are running. I try to start it about 4/5 times and the battery dies
I did have a bit of back fire earlier in the nite as well
Any ideas?

Re: Opti Problem?

could be a coil problem.. maybe some issues with grounding or alternator connection.

Just a few thoughts.

Re: Opti Problem?

yea, id say get a new battery (could get it cheap with warranty) or get the terminals fixed. Definately sounds like electrical problem.

Re: Opti Problem?

I had an opti go bad. Initially, it ran real ragged. Next time I started it, it was OK. When I tried to rev 4k+, the engine missed badly. Then it stoped and I was stranded. Turned ot the Opti exploded internally. Loose pieces all over. I replaced it and the car started. I don't think gm design the opti for a MSD6a and a 8202 blaser coil. I want to eliminate it totally, but Delteq still uses the Opti portion of the unit. Hey gm... nice mounting behind the water pump.

Re: Opti Problem?

could it be a bad iac? maybe thats why it dies at a light.

try disconnecting the maf and run it in speed density, then unplug the iac and see if it has trouble starting or idling. mine was acting sorta like yours when starting. unplugged the iac and the starting issues went away. did what yours did, start it up it would die, unless you gave it gas over 2500 untill it warmed up a a bit.

could also be bad wires, plugs, coil or opti. whens the last time you had a tune up?

Re: Opti Problem?

Hey i had my opti replaced and i had the same problem it stalled out at idle and lights, i found out it was my fuel pressure vaccum line, check for any vaccum leaks, maybe thats the problem
just my 2 cents
