First off, LT1's were only in 93-97 Camaros. Second, try do a search on Kelley Blue Book. I know it may not be the MOST accurate gauge of proper buying/selling price, but it's a good solid starting point in negotiation. I paid $5500 two years ago for my '94 Z28 Vert in average/good condition with 40k miles. I think that if you have up to $7500 to spend, you can find a very good condition LT1 with under 100k miles.

Just check all the basics. Also ask about the water pump and opti spark. Look at the back of the intake manifold and see if it's leaking. Open every door and flap and make sure there aren't any surprises. Some people have been known to install things in wierd places.
