Oil Pan Removal Necessary for Cam Install?

Oil Pan Removal Necessary for Cam Install?

Is it necessary or can the timing chain cover be removed without removing the oil pan? I don't know much about my '97 LT1, but my mechanic thinks it is necessary..... Thx!

You need to lower the oil pan. Shoebox has an excellent "how to" on cam replacement:
