oil leak after water pump&opti change

Well this may be no brainer hopefully for some. But just changed the water pump, cap and rotor button on my 95 z28. Now i have an oil leak from hell coming from the front of the engine. i have cleaned the front and watched it dripp from behind the water pump it seams. Guessing maybe from the where the water pump shaft splines to the cam? Any suggestions? Thanks. oh and the sleeve that houses the spplines on cam was very wobbly?

You probably rolled the pump seal. Do a search very common.

Re: oil leak after water pump&opti change

Just went through this problem. Changed water pump and cleaned the front of the motor. I guess cleaning exposed a leak that had been there for some time so I was getting a spray of oil on the fender wells. Yesterday I removed the water pump and the opti then changed both seals on the timing cover. leak solved.

Re: oil leak after water pump&opti change

what you describe as a sleeve is actually a coupler that joins the water pump to the water pump drive. The seal you need to change is right there and the bad news is that you can't change the seal with out removing the opti from the timing cover.
