New PCM leaves check engine light on?

New PCM leaves check engine light on?
My mechanic just put a new PCM on the wife's early 94 Z28 and told her that the check engine light is on and they cant clear it? is this true or did they get the wrong part?

It's possible that there is a fault that has been detected by the PCM, and it has set a trouble code and turned on the SES light. Tell the mechanic to scan it for codes.
