Question New Belt New tensioner and pulley belt still squeaky

Hey guys I'm new here recently bought a 97 z28 that the belt squeaked when I bought it, but it was a new gates. I put a new Autozone tentioner and pulley on it and it sopped but is now back after 300 miles. Everything spins freely without a belt and the noise stops with soap, but comes right back within a mile or so.None of the parts are expensive to replace ,alt pwr steering a/c pump but dont want to waste money, that could be spent on go fast things. Any Idea's going to clean it and the pulleys and see if that helps.

I chased a squeak for a year, changed the idler also. Ended up being the belt. I used one from NAPA.

If the water pump does not fix it, then get a goodyear gatorback belt. That was the only belt I've ever used that made my squeaks go away. I went through a couple of belts and new pulley as well trying to figure out why on earth the thing was squealing intermittantly. You may have to order it from summit and they are not cheap, but are well worth the money.

Hehe, btw, prayers on the way. =)

a squirt of water here and there on the pulleys may help you. Squirt a pulley and if squeak/squeal goes away for a minute then there's your issue.

All that work and a Goodyear Gator belt fixed the problem. 300 miles later still no squeak.

I'm going to correct the spelling in the Topic, so anyone who "searches" on "tensioner" will get a result.
