Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

I had the intake system out of my car and noticed the intake elbow seems to be rotting ever so slightly where it connects to the throttle body. It is sealed nice and tight but I want to get a new one - more of a preventative measure then necessity at this time.

Which one on this page would you get? I am leaning towards the stock rubber one as the kits have so many connections and to me it means more points of failure or possible leaks. Which one on this page would you get?

The second one.#25147210.Doesn't get as hot as metal.(1LE).Some members before used a heat measuring gun and found a 20 degree cooler intake elbow with this one.Hope this helps.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

Guys, thanks for the opinions/advice.
I am going to get the stock rubber one.

I just spent some time and quite a few bucks trying to keep the car running cooler so it only makes sense to use the rubber one.

You don't want 25147210. It's for a non-vented opti. Your sig says 1996. The 1LE elbow for a vented opti is 25147187.

shoebox, thanks for the heads up. I was just going to order it and came here for the link to the part and saw this.

Is that rubber hose that plugs into it the vent for the opti? Could I just drill a hole for it? I found the part you suggested but it is $110 USD. If I could drill a hole and save $40 that would be great.

Yes, it is for the opti. You could probably make a hole, if that is what you want to do. I have always been curious, though, if there was a length difference in length because of MAF or no MAF. Maybe the difference was made up in the rest of the intake tract and not the elbow.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

If I can't get the 1LE elbow (I have found a few, waiting for responses) then I will buy this one and report back if it works on a 1996+ or not. Could be an expensive mistake but I am hoping not.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

Thought I would update this thread.

I ordered the intake elbow from Summit Racing NAL-25147210

It is for a 93-95 Z28 but it bolted right up to my 1996 Z28.
The only thing I had to do was drill a hole for the hose that vents the opti.
It seems a tad thicker than the one that was on my car, but then again it was 20 years old so the rubber may have become softer.
It does not have the hole for the bellow on it. It is filled in and perfectly smooth inside.
Didn't notice a difference in the car at all as far as performance or sound. I replaced mine as it was really soft and it was more as a preventative measure.

I was going to buy a 1LE elbow that is floating around on other sites as it has a hole for the opti but forget it. By the time I got one to Canada it would be about $200+ USD. This was half the price and I will drill a hole to save $100, lol.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

Just to clarify..... the elbow itself is the "bellows" (yes, with an s, but still singular). The long plastic tube is a "silencer", eliminating resonance. The tube was deleted on the 1LE option - hence the blocked hole for the tube. Apparently they wanted the added induction noise, although I never noticed any change when I deleted the tube from my stock elbow, and filled/smoothed the opening.

^ Fred is right, and thanks for the correction.
My terminology was wrong.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

Shoot, if I had read this post earlier, I would have sold you my stock elbow cheap.

I installed a 1LE elbow and didn't notice any gains. Smog techs here in CA don't notice the swap either.

Re: Need a new intake elbow - thoughts?

The 1LE elbow was never marketed as an HP enhancement. It shouldn't matter to "smog techs" as it was a factory part that came on smog certified cars.
