Need Info! Trick Flow heads- Flow#s, dyno charts etc?

these are the heads that im planning on using on my 383 this winter and i havnt been able to find and flow sheets of what these heads are doing with different set ups. Do any of you guys know any of the Flow #s or may have copies of them or dyno charts that I can look at?

Bret feel free to chime in if you see this,
thanks,
-john

Re: Need Info! Trick Flow heads- Flow#s, dyno charts etc?

Do a "search". About 6 months ago when the heads were announced, a representative of TrickFlow posted to a thread with all the info on the heads. Essentially, they are simply SBC 1 heads with revised coolant passages, and flow the same as the SBC 1 heads listed in the TrickFlow catalog. They have 64cc combustion chambers, as I recall, making them primarily of interest to people wanting a lower CR for boost applications. There have also been several other threads on these heads, including one from AI offering to do a port job for free, to see how well they could be made to flow.

How did you decide you were going to use these heads, without flow info????

No better than a ported LT1 head IMO

I'm not sure your opinion effects the ACTUAL flow numbers. They are supposed to be able to flow 300+ cfm and take a 2.05 intake valve. They are what I will be running on my 383, but obviously ported quite a bit.

Look on the TFS sight,the numbers are there. Like White Night said,not much better than a ported stock set.My porter said he couldn't get them to flow what they should for an aftermarket head.CNC'd are 258-196@.600 with 2.02-1.60 valves.
You can get more than that in a stock casting with a 2.0-1.56 valves.

Re: Need Info! Trick Flow heads- Flow#s, dyno charts etc?

Sleeper,

I honestly don't know as I haven't had the time to really push them yet. I am simply wary of grinding anywhere near spots that are under .100" & sealing off water, as I have had several heads leak at .035-.045 due to porosity. AFR's for instance oftentimes have quite a bit of porosity, and these like them are another cheap street casting. I don't see 290cfm being an issue at all, which is enough air to make ~100hp more than what most guys want (~400rw/465flywheel). Based on flow tests done on piles of "300cfm" heads, I question whether or not people will get 300+ out of them safely or not, but I've no doubt people will say they will . Of course the particular set I have could simply have an inordinate amount of core shift or the thin spots are an oversight that will be fixed in future castings. It would be nice if that were the case

I look forward to seeing what they will do, and will probably eventually push one to the edge, but that may be awhile, as I can't honestly see it being worthwhile when it isnt something I'd be comfortable selling to people. I'll get to these eventually if no one buys them, but we've got so many new things we're working on for this winter than it's difficult to find time.

I've been getting a bunch of PM's etc. on these, and my boxes fill up quick, so if you guys wouldn't mind, use sales@ advancedinduction.com (remove space) for info on them, please

Thanks so much guys!!

-Phil

The Edelbrock heads flow significantly more than stock while maintaining the same sized port volumes. Great for torque and top end.

Re: Need Info! Trick Flow heads- Flow#s, dyno charts etc?

Went and got numbers for Edelbrock's LT1 casting:

Port Vol:
-Int- 170
-Ex- 60

Valves: 1.94/1.55

CC: 54

.1 = 61 52
.2 = 117 100
.3 = 174 140
.4 = 220 167
.5 = 242 184
.6 = 232 192

I must say I'm still impressed with Edelbrock's flow numbers more than Trick Flow's due to the fact that the intake and exhaust port volumes are basically the stock sizes, and the valves are slightly smaller. For a street car I'd go with Edelbrocks, for a racing vehicle I'd go with AFR 227s

Re: Need Info! Trick Flow heads- Flow#s, dyno charts etc?

The flow #'s on the Trick Flows is almost identical to my ported 1.94-1.50 valved heads....
...actually, mine are slightly BETTOR. 350 bucks for porting.

Interesting. I suppose no one has bought any yet and had some port work done to them to see what they're really capable of.

we had a guy buy the edelbrocks we flowed them they were a little better than stock lt1 heads on the intake side but alot better on the exhaust i showed him what my lt1's flowed and he **** his pants. so he sent them back and got the trick flows we flowed those ok on both intake and exhaust but my lt1's still beat them
sorry that i dont have numbers i do know off hand at .600 my lt1's flow 274 intake 230 exhaust without a pipe

I don't think the TFS LT1 heads are in there, but it's useful info to have around.
